Breastfeeding is learned, not always instinctive

Although breastfeeding is natural, it’s NOT always easy or instinctive - both mother and baby have to learn. Many mothers abandon breastfeeding in the first weeks due to preventable problems: pain from poor latch, perception of insufficient milk, or babies not gaining weight. With my training in Maternal & Child Nutrition, I can identify specific problems, correct technique, increase your confidence, and make breastfeeding work for you and your baby.

Why breastfeeding support with Dr. Sandy?

Specialized Training in Maternal & Child Nutrition

Master’s in Maternal & Child Nutrition (UNIN) beyond standard pediatric training. Deep knowledge about lactation physiology, breast milk composition, and infant nutrition.

Medical + Practical Approach

As a pediatrician, I comprehensively evaluate your baby (weight, hydration, development) AND teach you practical breastfeeding techniques. Not just theory - I show you correct positions, correct latch in real-time, solve specific problems.

Experience with Complex Cases

I’ve recovered cases of babies with low weight from inadequate breastfeeding, solved latch problems in babies with tongue-tie, and helped mothers with low supply increase it. Includes cases where other professionals had given up.

Virtual Consultation Available

I understand leaving home with a newborn is difficult. I offer virtual consultation (Q200) where I can assess breastfeeding technique, observe latch, and give guidance from your home. In-person (Q300) when you need complete physical evaluation of baby.

Consultation Process

What does Breastfeeding Consultation include?

Complete evaluation and personalized plan to achieve successful breastfeeding.

Step 1

Complete Breastfeeding History

I ask about your experience: how breastfeeding has been so far, feeding frequency, duration, if using formula or pump, pain, specific concerns. Also baby’s history: age, birth weight, weight gain, stools and urine (key hydration and nutrition indicators).

Step 2

Baby Evaluation

Current weight and comparison with birth weight and previous (bring record card). Physical exam: hydration, muscle tone, mouth assessment (palate, tongue-tie). Observation of hunger and satiety cues. In-person consultation I can do more complete evaluation, in virtual you can show me baby on camera.

Step 3

Observation of Complete Feeding

THIS IS KEY. I ask you to nurse baby during consultation (or on video call) to observe: baby position, breast latch (does mouth open wide? takes enough areola?), effective sucking (swallowing? how many sucks per swallow?), feeding duration. I identify exactly where the problem is.

Step 4

Real-Time Technique Correction

I teach and correct: optimal nursing positions (cross-cradle, side-lying, football hold), how to achieve correct deep latch, how to know if baby is swallowing milk (not just sucking). I show you physically or by video. We practice until you do it correctly.

Step 5

Personalized Plan and Follow-up

Specific plan for your situation: recommended feeding frequency, if you need to supplement (how much, how), techniques to increase supply if needed, nipple care, when to use pump. Follow-up date (usually 3-7 days) to assess progress. Available via WhatsApp for urgent questions.
